Why Us?
Why Us? Make Hospitality & Hope your chosen charity.
Dear Friends & Supporters of H&H,
We all have moments of crisis in our life when we struggle to cope. When it’s around vital basic needs, such as food, a home, or concerns surrounding money, it’s particularly distressing. With the rise in the cost of living and unemployment, household bills, rent or mortgages, it can take just one unexpected bill that sends people into crisis, unable to make ends meet.
45% of our crisis food parcels are given to families, and at least 5% of parcels are given to individuals in employment. Above all, Hospitality & Hope must raise over £1 million each year of charitable income to enable us to continue our fight to eliminate food insecurity and deliver our food education, welfare, accommodation services and debt & benefit guidance, for the most vulnerable people across South Tyneside.
We can’t do this alone.
As Local Authority budgets become even more stretched, many services now fall to charities like us, we are a critical resource for those in the South Tyneside community. Therefore, our local & regional Corporate Partnerships are critical to help us continue to make real generational change within families across our community. With your help, we can offer crisis support and long- term community education.
Our services begin with Crisis support to hundreds of individuals every month in our food bank, who find themselves in food crisis or insecurity, and for those who utilise our Homeless Accommodation. Both are supported with longer terms programs of individual life advice, guidance and financial support.
Community shops
We also operate three community shops, which were developed to be able to assist those on low incomes, to stretch their monthly food budget further. Offering heavily discounted fresh, frozen and tinned food, with over 500 members, encompassing employed and unemployed individuals.
At our Activities Hub, and Food Hub (newly launched at Horsley Hill in September 2025) we offer daily free, fun activities & workshops, aimed at delivering welfare and education around food skills. Our activities help residents connect, build confidence, develop soft skills, combat loneliness, as well as giving us an opportunity to educate around food preparation, cooking skills, food budgeting and how to make low cost, nutritional, healthy meals.
Helping the most vulnerable
In the school holidays of July & August 2025 we had hundreds of people take part in these developmental classes, workshops and day trips including transport and lunch. Giving critical support, nutrition, and inspiration to underprivileged families who otherwise would have struggled.
Our community feedback shows residents feel inspired & supported, and individuals are learning life changing skills, that impact positively on their daily family life and have the potential to, for generations to come, whilst developing critical community friendships and support networks.
Looking to the future
We have more special projects planned for our future, and only by continuing to fundraise for unrestricted funds, and seek grants for special projects, can we truly plan the strategic future of Hospitality and Hope.
Our Corporate Partnerships, Community Champions, Teams of Crowdfunder Fundraisers and Individual Donations, are all vital to our success, just as WE are vital to our community.
There’s so many ways individuals and corporates can “get-involved” by pledging to donate and helping us make a life-changing impact to the most vulnerable residents of South Tyneside.
Please, help us, to act now.
