Are you struggling with buying food, after all your bills are paid? Are the cupboards empty, and you still have 2 weeks left until payday? Do you find yourself feeding the children, but not yourself, because there’s just not enough food for everyone? If so, you are not alone.

Emergency food provision across the UK remains an essential service, with 1,475 food parcels provided to 3,394 individuals in 2025. Provision sharply rose over the last 5 years and is two and a half times the level seen a decade ago.

We provide emergency food parcels, for individuals and families, who are temporarily experiencing food insecurity. To be supported from us, you will need be referred by an Agency.

You can only do this THREE TIMES in a SIX – MONTH period. Please note we have ended our previous self referral system due to overwhelming constraints placed upon our services.

For Food Parcel Requests please discuss the matter with your keyworker or agency contact (such as Citizens Advice, DWP or STARS) and ask them to please submit a request on your behalf. Please do not contact us to discuss a self referral request as we won’t be able to support this request.

What Can I Expect After An Application Has Been Made?

After your request is processed by your agency contact, you will be able to collect your parcel during opening times.

• A family will receive a pre-made food parcel, with items worth around £30+.
• An individual will receive a food parcel worth around £15.
• Our parcels are set, you cannot choose individual items, although you can request additional items such as:
  • Toiletry Items (such as toothpastes, deodorants, shower gels) – limited to three items.
  • Sanitary Products (Period Packs)
  • Pet Food (Wet or Dry, where available)

  Please speak to your agency worker if you have any ALLERGIES or DIETARY concerns we should consider.

How To Collect Your Parcel

Please collect it from Hampden Street NE33 4JR where our Food Bank is located on Mon/Tue/Thur/Fri between 11am and 1pm.

We will log your name and address on our system and ask for a form of ID to prove you are the applicant. This is necessary to monitor usage and fulfil our food bank terms and conditions and we can’t release the parcel without ID. All items must be collected in person, by the individual named on the referral form.

Want to get involved? Are you a business / School / Pubs / Restaurant / who could hold an event, or pledge to fundraise for us? Could you hold a food collection, to collect food donations for us?

We need business and individuals to volunteer time; across the wide range of services, we offer. Without you, we cannot deliver the life changing services we offer.

We still had a shortfall of food donations for our Crisis Response, at an estimated cost of £5,667 or 20% of all stock in 2025, which highlights the need for continuous support from the Community for food bank donations.

Hospitality & Hope’s Food Bank, South Tyneside Foodbank, is also a part of a national network of over 2,500 foodbanks in the UK; we are supported by Trussell.

43% of those who use our food bank are families, a percentage of whom have adults in employment, but still struggle financially to buy food after bills are paid.

According to the Food Foundation, over 9.7million adults and over 4 million children are experiencing food insecurity in the UK.

Food banks in the Trussell community distributed 2.9 million emergency food parcels between 1 April 2024 to 31 March 2025. This is a decrease (-8%) compared to 2023/24 when 3.1 million parcels were distributed, the most parcels ever distributed in a year. The level of emergency food provision
seen across food banks in the Trussell community in 2024/25 remained close to these record levels.

The longer-term trend is stark. The number of parcels distributed in 2024/25 is 51% higher than the number distributed in the same period five years ago, in 2019/20, and more than two and a half times (164%) the amount distributed ten years ago in 2014/15.

Hospitality & Hope food bank has been serving the residents of South Tyneside for over 20 years.

In 2024 alone, we provided almost 2,000 emergency parcels supporting over 4,600 people.
