Community Champions

  • “Championing Change, Inspiring Growth.”

Could you be our next Community Champion? Here, we celebrate some inspirational INDIVIDUALS who are FUNDRAISING to support those most in need in our community – by championing H&H you enable us to continue to make life-changing impact on those within your community; giving a boost of courage and strength – helping vulnerable people within South Tyneside lead a more independent and self-reliant life, helping them through crisis,  combat food insecurity and homelessness, and allow us to continue our shops, education and activities relating to food education.

Here’s just a sample of the amazing INDIVIDUALS who are FUNDRAISING for H&H together with some of the SPORTING & FUNDRAISING ACTIVITIES they’ve taken part in. If you feel inspired by them (why wouldn’t you!) and want to join them, then check out how you can support and get in touch with us now to discuss further.

Rory Gibson

Thank you so much to Rory Gibson, who participated in the 2025 Great North Run to raise a phenomenal £1,222 for Hospitality & Hope via our dedicated Crowdfunder platform.

As Rory says himself “I feel it is only right to give something back to the place that has already given so much to me.

Hospitality & Hope do so much great work, not only with their South Tyneside Food Bank but through their many events and initiatives providing support to the homeless, and local communities.”

The ‘Harton Hike’

Huge thanks to organisers Isaac and Steve  from Harton Sports Centre as well as everyone who participated in the inaugural Harton Hike in November 2025 to raise over £2,700 (plus Gift Aid) for Hospitality & Hope via our dedicated Crowdfunder platform.

The team walked from South Shields to Roker Pier and intend to make it an annual event for charity going forward. As you can see from the picture they had a full house on the day and lots of support! #TeamHandH #CommunityChampions

Beacon Vineyard, South Shields

Beacon Vineyard hosts services in South Shields and have been a supporter of Hospitality & Hope for several years, with their congregation regularly donating to support our Crisis Response directly.

Local collections like these are invaluable in helping us to support those most in need.

Wrap For Jak

Wrap For Jak is a family run event, dedicated to providing local children and families donations of toys and gifts for Christmas. We’ve been most fortunate to have recieved donations from Wrap For Jak on several occassions and we couldn’t be more appreciative of their support to our annual Toy Drive. Jak was an inspring boy who serves as the inspiration for this incredible Community group. Thank you!

Lydia and Millie – Official SSFC Mascots!

Having a longstanding association with H&H, participating in our Wellbeing events with their parents, Lydia and Millie recently became Community Champions by becoming official mascots at South Shields FC first match of the 25/26 Season against Marine AFC. An amazing day out for both ladies and helping to promote H&H to a new local audience!

Christina Walker

Christina Walker participated in the Great North Run to raise funds for Hospitality and Hope in 2024. She had participated in the annual event for several years previous to this and was also an experienced marathon runner in several events – choosing H&H specifically for 2024 because she had become a shop member at our Horsely Hill Community Shop.

Christina says “I chose Hospitality and Hope for this years fundraising effort because the work you do supporting our local community with Food Banks, Community Shops and Wellbeing Activities is so valuable and I hope by promoting the organisation H&H will continue to thrive and peoples awareness will be increased.”

Christina rose funds both in person and through Crowdfunder, raising a fantastic £200 through the latter.

HERE’S OUR PROVEN MINI GUIDE TO FUNDRAISING SUCCESS.

  • Register your fundraising idea with us.

So many of you are organising your own fundraising. If you tell us about it by registering your fundraising idea with us, we can help share your stories, and your fundraising page links. It only takes a couple of minutes. We call our individual fundraisers Community Champions, and we give them as much support as our Corporate Partnerships.

  • Set up an online fundraising page, connected to our charity profile.

It is so easy in a digital world to share, share, share your fundraising stories, and receive donations if you set up an online giving page. New to this? It is simply a digital sponsorship form that makes it easy for you to spread the word about your challenge and for your supporters to make an online donation. You will have your own fundraising blog page, which you can personalise and update, and share.

  • We use the Crowdfunder platform.
  • Follow the link above, click on “fundraise for this charity” and begin to build your dedicated fundraising space, to become a part of #TeamHandHFundraiser. If you need any help, no problem, we can assist!

It takes all the hassle out of collecting donations so you can focus on your fundraising.

  • Tell your fundraising story.

H&H use the online donations platform: Crowdfunder. Once your fundraising page is set up, do not forget to personalise it. Adding things like a profile photo, a story about what you are doing and why, and a fundraising target really help. You are doing something amazing in your local community helping the most vulnerable overcome food crisis and insecurity, and helping us educate and inspire, around food, making real change across families and generations. Share your page to tell people about what you are doing, about what we do, and to motivate them to support you.

  • Go to our “Fundraising Zone” and download our fundraising resources – start spreading the word!

Online fundraising? Either you or us, can set your online fundraising page. You will need to set a financial pledge / target and describe why you have chosen us and how the money we raise benefits the most vulnerable people. You can find this on our website, corporates or vision and values pages. Add pictures and your personal story as well as planned activities, including dates and times.

Now you need to promote it, not just digitally but physically around your schools, community pubs, bars, restaurants and anywhere you go, that potential donators may go too.

Digital & social? Why not begin by sharing a personal message to encourage family, friends, and colleagues first. Use video, show them what you are doing? share our hashtag to gain reach and become a member of our community:  #TeamHandHFundraiser, share to local community or like-minded group pages and with our socials. Use your LinkedIn profile, tag friends, colleagues, and business (do not forget to thank them when they donate and respond to comments) we have digital assets you can use to promote your fundraising for us, and afterwards to celebrate your success.

Physical sharing? Don’t forget there is more to life than digital. We have printable posters to promote your activities, and once you have achieved your target pledge, we also have posters and other materials to help share your success! If it is a bit wacky, why not contact your local newspaper or share to your local community social media pages or your works intranet too?

  • Once your event is over, please do share your success with colleagues, friends, family and of course us. Download your success resources from our Fundraising Zone and arrange to pay in your money through one of the following ways:
