Payroll Giving South Tyneside

Regular Giving: A small donation can be a huge step to reducing Food Insecurity & Crisis for the most vulnerable in our community, with a regular gift:

Payroll & Monthly Giving

Regular giving is a vital part of our Charitable income. Whether from individuals or corporates, monthly donations can have truly life changing, long lasting impact to the community we serve. We can’t do it all alone. We need these regular and incredibly powerful partnerships.

These vital monthly donations can represent core income for Hospitality & Hope. Having regular, monthly, unrestricted income allows us to plan our future, increasing our chances of longevity as a charity. They allow us to plan long term strategies and specific projects in advance to ensure the most vulnerable members of our community receive the support they need across all our service areas. Allowing us to rely less on funding applications, which are often restricted for set projects or activities. It also allows us to budget for the unexpected (such as the pandemic) or something more specific to our community. Core funding becomes our emergency fund, in a crisis.

Regular giving is a truly special gift for Hospitality & Hope, and you can do this as individuals through a monthly direct debit, or via your employers, with payroll giving.

How can I donate via Payroll giving?

You can do this via your own company HR/ Accounts Department. Payroll giving is an amazing way for individual Employees to give a small amount each month pre-tax. When donations are done en-masse by many employees in a company those small amounts can collectively make a huge difference to Hospitality & Hope’s core monthly income. E.g. 1,000 employees each give the price of a cup of coffee per month at just £3.00 = £3000 per month. This donation means that at least 100 families with a crisis food parcel in their time of need.

With payroll giving, every 80p becomes £1. As it is donated before tax, the government then adds the additional 20p tax,  so £3,000 would become £3,800. Some employers also choose to match fund their total employee donations, super amplifying the impact a Company can have. Your company received tax benefits for charitable donations, from their profit, reducing their tax bill.

How does Payroll giving work?
Payroll Giving, is known as Give As You Earn, in the UK. It allows employees to donate to charities directly from their pre-tax pay, making charitable giving simple and tax efficient. Contributions are taken before tax is applied, meaning employees can donate more without it costing them extra.

For example, a £10 donation costs a basic rate taxpayer only £8, with the government covering the extra £2 (20%) this is called gift aid. Through these agencies the gift aid is collected automatically from the government. (whereas with cash donations we need to collect this manually which can be both time consuming and potentially disruptive for the charity)

For companies, Payroll Giving is a great way to support employees’ charitable fundraising activities, all of which can enhance workplace morale, strengthen corporate social responsibility, bring your brand to new audiences and create positive PR stories around your brand, help support the most vulnerable in a community near you and give back to the area where your company operates.

All in all, strengthening your brand recognition within the public and changing public perception and loyalty to your brand.
